Dewclaw Removal Day

Today was dewclaw removal day for the pups. The Canadian Kennel Club Breed Standard states that rear dewclaws must be removed and front dewclaws are preferably removed. We do both front and rear dewclaws as I find it is less work for the owners when it comes to clipping the nails on dewclaws. Some also feel there is a danger of ripping the dewclaw but I have not had an issue but rather decide on it for the new owners and also for a cosmetic choice for myself.

Pups are doing well after their procedure and were very quiet on the ride home. Reni enjoyed her time out and getting pets from the staff at the vet clinic.

Here's a picture of the brood from last night.

8 Beautiful babies were born to Reni and Trekker on April 24th. 5 girls and 3 boys. Everyone is doing well and they're so far very quiet babies and Reni is being an excellent mom.

The Daddy to be

Here is a picture of the sire of the Susa 'B' litter.

His name is Hickory's Tale of Serendip, otherwise known as 'Trekker'. You can see more about Trekker on my website http://www.bernesedogs.com/ and also the Berner-Garde website http://www.bernergarde.org/

The Expectant Mother

Thought I'd post a few pics of the expectant mother Reni. She's starting to get uncomfortable but she's still very happy and outgoing!

Waiting with Bated Breath

We're busy preparing for the arrival of Reni and Trekker's puppies and the wonderful smell of puppy breath. If you haven't had the opportunity enjoying puppy breath, you don't know what you're missing! Puppies are due April 23rd and we'll get an x-ray April 20th to see how many pups we are expecting. Stay tuned for news!
